CBSUA-CEFS, DTI EMPOWER MICRO-ENTREPRENEURS WITH FOOD PRESERVATION TRAINING

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture-College of Engineering and Food Science (CBSUA-CEFS), through its Department of Food Science, recently partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to conduct a training program titled “Preserving Success: Food Preservation Techniques for Micro-Entrepreneurs.” The event took place on June 25, 2025, at the Agro-Processing and Food Technology Center, CBSUA.

The training aimed to provide small-scale food producers with crucial preservation methods. These techniques are designed to help entrepreneurs extend the shelf life of their products, minimize waste, and improve overall product quality. The DTI strongly supports this initiative, envisioning that such training will empower local communities by fostering livelihood generation and developing agri-based entrepreneurship throughout the Bicol region.

CBSUA played a vital role by offering both technical expertise and essential facilities for the training and demonstrations. Associate Professor Julieta M. Casaul, a faculty member from the CBSUA-Department of Food Science, served as the resource person. She shared her knowledge and demonstrated practical preservation technologies to the participants.

A total of fifteen micro-entrepreneurs and ten youths from the Municipality of San Fernando attended the comprehensive training. The curriculum focused on practical skills, including squash jam making, chocolate production from cacao, and ‘laing’ preparation. By mastering these methods, participants are now better equipped to enhance their product offerings, increase profitability, and tap into wider markets.
