Following a rigorous program monitoring and assessment visit by the Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) of Food Technology on July 8, 2025, the Department of Food Science (DFS) under the College of Engineering and Food Science at Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) received a recommendation for the reissuance of program compliance for its BS Food Technology program.
The PRB assessment team was composed of Hon. Anthony C. Sales, Chairman of PRB of Food Technology, and Hon. Remedios V. Baclig, member of the PRB of Food Technology.
Atty. Dominador F. Faurillo, VP for Admin and Finance and OIC President, opened the session with a message. He acknowledged the presence of the PRB assessors and their role in ensuring the program’s compliance with the board standards for food technology. Prof. Julie Casaul provided a comprehensive overview of the BS in Food Technology’s academic activities, projects, research mobilization, program initiatives, community engagements, product development and commercialization, and student and departmental achievements.
The monitoring session proceeded with the discussion of the areas for program audit. This included a review of the policy on student admission, faculty credentials, facility requirements, and licensure examination turnouts.
A crucial part of the monitoring was the inspection of the different facilities and laboratories pertinent to the food technology program. The PRB visited the Agro-processing Laboratory and Food Technology Laboratory. Part of the visit included inspection of the apparatuses and equipment housed in the mentioned laboratories. Assessors also probed into the practices and policies being implemented in the facilities.
With its current program compliance status, the BS Food Technology program is scheduled for its next monitoring in three years, with specific areas identified for improvement.
