CBSUA, VIVES UAS STRENGTHEN GLOBAL TIES THROUGH CAMPUS VISIT

Continuing its commitment to global engagement and collaboration, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) hosted Professor Jonathan Vanhaelst of VIVES University of Applied Sciences, Belgium, for an academic, cultural, and community engagement visit across its Calabanga, Sipocot, and Pasacao campuses on July 9, 2025. This campus tour aimed to promote educational and cultural exchange, strengthen international cooperation, and address real-world challenges through sustainable and inclusive development.

The activity commenced at CBSUA Calabanga Campus, where Campus Administrator Dr. Ernesto D. Doloso, Jr. warmly welcomed Professor Vanhaelst. The discussion between Dr. Doloso and Prof. Vanhaelst focused on the campus’ innovative academic initiatives, followed by a guided tour of the BFAR Multi-Species Hatchery Project, which highlighted the integration of education and sustainable fishery innovations. During the visit, Prof. Vanhaelst expressed interest in their Environmental Science program, noting its similarities to the Green Management program in VIVES.

Professor Vanhaelst received a warm reception at CBSUA Pasacao Campus, described by Campus Administrator Prof. Kristine May C. Regaspi as the “youngest yet competitive campus of CBSUA”. The visit included a courtesy call with Hon. Niño A. Tayco, Municipal Mayor of Pasacao. The delegation also visited the Pasacao Mangrove Growers Association, managed by Mr. Dennis R. Gerona, together with Mr. Noel Ciudadano, Office Head of the Municipal Planning and Development Office of LGU Pasacao. Professor Vanhaelst had a meaningful and memorable experience planting a mangrove seedling. The symbolic planting of the mangrove represents a shared commitment to environmental stewardship of CBSUA, VIVES, and the Local Government Unit of Pasacao.

The campus tour concluded at CBSUA Sipocot Campus, where Professor Jonathan Vanhaelst was warmly welcomed during a program organized by the faculty and staff.  The event was graced by Prof. Gineo B.
