The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) has become the first higher education institution in the Philippines to implement the Digital Farmers Program (DFP), making a significant step in bridging the digital divide in the agriculture sector. The initiative was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) held today, September 23, 2025, at the Farmerโs Training Hall, CBSUA.
Under this program, the university received a FarmTech package containing technology resources designed as a portable training and livelihood resource to provide farming communities with access to technology and digital agriculture content. The package integrates mobile technology with DFP training modules, enabling farmer organizations to roll out the program in their respective areas. Beyond training, it also equips farmers with tools and resources to explore digital marketing through social media and e-commerce platforms, enhancing their productivity and market reach.
In his message, CBSUA President Dr. Alberto N. Naperi highlighted the importance of collaboration, citing the role of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in advancing agricultural development. He expressed his deep appreciation for the trust given to CBSUA as they continue to bridge the digital divide in the farming sector.
Representing PLDT and SMART, Ms. Stephanie V. Orlino, Center Head of the Stakeholder Engagement Team, reaffirmed their commitment to empowering farmers through technology. She emphasizes the importance of working together to uplift agriculture and give back to our farmers.
Meanwhile, Ms. Elsa A. Parot, Center Director of DA-ATI, emphasized the urgency of integrating technology into agriculture to empower farmers, especially those in geographically challenging areas. She underscored the need to maximize resources and partnerships to develop the farming community even in hard-to-reach areas.
The partnership between CBSUA, DA-ATI, PLDT, and SMART reflects a united effort to modernize agriculture, empower local farmers, and ensure that digital tools are accessible to all, regardless of location. This initiative affirms the power of innovation and collaboration in advancing a resilient and sustainable future for Philippine agriculture.
