Amid the threats and devastation brought by Severe Tropical Storm “Uwan”, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) stepped up to provide immediate relief and safe shelter to affected communities in Camarines Sur from November 8 to 10, 2025.
Following the memorandum on forced evacuation issued by the Provincial Government, CBSUA promptly opened its campuses in Calabanga, Pasacao, Pili, and Sipocot as evacuation centers for residents from flood- and landslide-prone areas.
A total of 866 individuals or 199 families sought refuge across the four campuses:
- Calabanga Campus sheltered 113 individuals (24 families) from Barangays Sta. Cruz-Ratay, Sogod, and San Roque.
- Pasacao Campus accommodated 255 evacuees (54 families) from Barangays Del Norte, San Cirilo, and Sta. Rosa Del Sur.
- Pili Campus received 408 individuals (105 families) from Barangays Caroyroyan and San Jose in Pili; Malbong, Sampaloc, Sto. Domingo, and Dahilig in Gainza; and Dugcal and Marupit in Camaligan.
- Sipocot Campus housed 90 individuals (16 families) from Barangays South Centro, Impig, North Centro, San Isidro, and Malubago.
The CBSUA Resilience Center, in close coordination with local government units and the Camarines Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), led the swift and organized response. Classrooms and university facilities were utilized to ensure the safety, comfort, and welfare of all evacuees.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Red Cross-Camarines Sur Chapter extended additional support by providing hot meals to evacuees throughout their stay.
Despite sustaining damages from STS Uwan, CBSUA, through its hardworking personnel, worked tirelessly to maintain a secure and comfortable environment until the decampment on November 10, 2025.
True to its spirit of bayanihan and volunteerism, CBSUA once again proved that its campuses are not only centers of learning but also sanctuaries of compassion, resilience, and service to the people of Camarines Sur.
