CBSUA Hails STEAC "Centennial" Winners

31st Science and Technology Excellence Awards Competition

To promote innovative researches and the creation of viable technologies for the advancement of the University and the Bicol Region, the CBSUA Research Division held the 31stScience and Technology Excellence Awards Competition (STEAC) on April 13, 2018 at the CN Divinagracia Hall.

The annual competition consists of three categories: oral paper presentation for undergraduate and graduate students of the University, and the poster competition. The 31st STEAC coincides with the centennial celebration of CBSUA. The ‘centennial’ winners are as follows:

In her message, CBSUA President Georgina J. Bordado, emphasized the importance of research as a primary function of CBSUA. “We are holding this competition to recognize the talent and discover the potentials of our student-researchers. Competitions like this will further develop their research skills as well as their presentation skills. It’s a perfect venue to exchange ideas and facilitate intellectual discussions,” she added.

The panel of evaluators was composed of experienced and prominent researchers: Dr. Yolanda L. Castroverde, former CBSUA professor; Ms. Corazon A. Orbon of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office5; Dr. Mariel R. Estrella of the Mariners Polytechnic Colleges; Mr. WilfredoPrilles of the local government of Naga; Dr. Virginia Reyes of Universidad de Santa Isabel; Ms. Teresa Alcantara of DOST Regional Office 5; and Ms. Ruby JaneS. Gonzales of Bicol Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging TechnologyResearch and Development.

Winners of the paper presentation received P5,000, P4,000, and P3,000 for the first, second and third places, respectively plus a certificate of recognition. Meanwhile, poster competition winners received P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000  for the first, second and third places, respectively plus certificates of recognition. –FPBeraña
