CBSUA hosts the 5th National Congress and 2017 Philippine Agriculturists’ Summit

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), the PAA Bicol Chapter and the National Philippine Association of Agriculturists Inc. (PAA) hosted this year’s 5th National Congress and Philippine Agriculturists’ Summit on July 16-19, 2017 at the Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City.

Bearing the theme: “Enhancing the Agriculture Profession towards a Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture in the Global Community,” the provided its members the opportunity to discuss issues and updates on the agriculture, the agricultural profession as well as crosscutting technologies on resilient and sustainability to increase food security,competitiveness and product safety in the light of regional and national integration.

Senator Cynthia A. Villar served as the keynote speaker on the opening of the Congress and Summit where emphasized the need to sustain agriculture by helping the farmers and fisher folks to maintain the momentum in food production not just for today but also for the upcoming generations. She also cited the urgent need to switch to sustainable agricultural practices achieve food security, end hunger, improve nutrition and promote agriculture towards agro-ecology.

The event was graced by the different known personalities in the field of agriculture and food security such as Senator Cynthia Villar, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food; John Bongat, Naga Mayor; Miguel Luis Villafuerte, Governor of the Province of Camarines Sur; Luis Ray Villafuerte, 2nd District Representative; Dr. Arthur R. Baria,Philippine Association of Agriculturists’ Inc. President; Dr. Roberto F. Rañola Jr., Chairperson of the PAA Board of Trustees; Dr. Ernesto O. Brown, Director,PCAARRD Socio Economics Research Division; Dr. Cielito F. Habito, USAID Trade Chief of Party; Dr. Segredo R. Serrano, Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Policy and Planning; and Dr. Nicomedes P. Eleazar,Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Agricultural Research Director.

The 5th National Congress and Philippine Agriculturists’ Summit staged technical sessions such as plenary lectures, paper presentations, and concurrent scientific sessions, exhibits,fellowship and oath taking of the new agriculturists was also done during the summit.
