The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, through the extension program SUSLIVES, successfully conducted the Leadership Training for Key Officials of Cooperatives and Associations on May 25, 2026, at the CBSUA Farmersโ€™ Training Hall. The activity aimed to strengthen the leadership capabilities of cooperative and association officers and enhance their skills in organizational management, communication, and conflict resolution.

The program was formally opened by Prof. Vladimir R. Foronda, SUSLIVES Program Leader, who emphasized the importance of effective leadership in sustaining strong and productive organizations. This was followed by an inspiring message from Maโ€™am Abegail Guinoo, Director of the Extension Services Division, who encouraged the participants to continue empowering their respective organizations through active leadership and collaboration. Meanwhile, Dr. Fortunato M. Balbis Jr., Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and SUSLIVES Project Leader, highlighted the importance of responsible leadership, teamwork, and commitment in achieving organizational goals and advancing community development.

The activity was facilitated by Mr. Roy Nelson G. Layosa as the resource speaker for the training. During the morning session, he shared valuable insights on leadership concepts, leadership styles, and the characteristics of effective leaders. Using gamification strategies, Mr. Layosa actively engaged the participants in interactive learning activities that enhanced their understanding of leadership concepts, teamwork, communication, and conflict management. Participants actively engaged in the discussions and reflected on their roles as leaders within their organizations.

An open sharing session also allowed participants to discuss organizational conflicts and challenges they commonly encounter. These concerns became the focus of the afternoon session, which tackled conflict resolution and management, teamwork, effective communication, and decision-making strategies. Through interactive discussions and practical examples, participants gained a deeper understanding of how to address issues constructively and maintain harmony within their organizations.

The successful conduct of the training reflects CBSUAโ€™s continuing commitment to community empowerment and extension services through capacity-building initiatives that contribute to the growth and development of local organizations and communities. The activity will have a succeeding series that will further strengthen their organizations in terms of leadership development, organizational management, teamwork, and effective communication.
