CBSUA LEADS THE WAY IN DISASTER PREPAREDNESS WITH ‘NSTP GREEN & READY’ INITIATIVE

Students from the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture’s (CBSUA) National Service Training Program (NSTP) participated in the successful conduct of “NSTP GREEN & READY (Responsible, Empowered, Active, Disciplined Youth) in Nation-Building,” an initiative focused on environmental stewardship and comprehensive disaster readiness. Held on October 5, 2025, the activity was a vital component of the Implementing Rules and Regulations – Common Module of Republic Act (RA) 9163, aimed at equipping participants with essential life-saving knowledge and practical skills.

The event commenced with a Mass Clean-Up Drive around the university’s Pili Campus, underscoring the “GREEN” aspect of the initiative by promoting environmental responsibility among students. This was immediately followed by the “READY” activity, which included a series of lectures and drills on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). Experts shared insights on the importance and objectives of the NSTP READY program, including a detailed discussion on RA 10121, also known as the DRRM Law, which mandates a proactive approach to disaster management.

The program featured a roster of experienced resource speakers and facilitators from the CBSUA Resiliency Center, FMAG Rescue Philippines, the CBSUA DRROU with Gryphon (Tigaon Chapter), selected skilled Training Staff, and the Bureau of Fire Protection-Pili. Their expertise facilitated hands-on simulation drills designed to move beyond theoretical knowledge. Participants were actively engaged in practicing Basic Life Support (BLS) application, essential Ropemanship techniques like Basic Knot Tying and River Crossing, a full Earthquake Drill Simulation, and practical firefighting techniques.

The collaborative effort successfully met its goal of significantly enhancing the college community’s preparedness and resilience. Participants, assisted by training staff and faculty, were able to grasp the critical importance of disaster readiness and response. According to Engr. Ralph Vincent M. Eloreta, NSTP Coordinator for the Pili Campus, the simulation drills were particularly effective in boosting the students’ confidence and capacity to act decisively during emergencies. Overall, the NSTP READY initiative successfully raised awareness, built essential life-saving skills, and strengthened the college’s disaster preparedness, aligning perfectly with the core objective of RA 9163 to foster active and disciplined youth leaders in nation-building. | 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘳.
