The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) and the Philippine Wikimedia Community Inc. (PhilWiki Community) formally sealed a partnership on November 18, 2025, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation. The collaboration aims to strengthen CBSUA Wiki Education initiatives and expand open knowledge access.
PhilWiki Community President Maffeth Sto. Tomas led the delegation, joined by Board Members Bernadette Roco, Marvin Molin, and Leah Sumalinog; University Extension Services Director and PhilWiki member Abegail Guinoo; and co-founder Irvin Sto. Tomas, who all served as witnesses. Sto. Tomas expressed her gratitude to CBSUA for its continued support of the Wikimedia movement since 2017.
Representing SUC President IV Dr. Alberto Naperi was Atty. Dominador Faurillo, Vice President for Finance, while Jerome Hipolito, Coordinator for Local Linkages and Special Projects of CBSUA-Calabanga Campus, presented the Vision, Mission, Objectives, and 5-Year Strategic Plan of CBSUA Wiki Education.
PhilWiki Community founding chair Irvin Sto. Tomas committed the Wikimedia affiliate’s full support in capacitating CBSUA students, faculty, and personnel to build and disseminate free-licensed content and materials to the open educational resources. As a challenge moving forward, Vice President for Research and Innovation Dr. Dariel A. Palmiano encouraged the integration of faculty research outputs into Wikimedia to enrich public knowledge resources.
CBSUA Wiki Education pursues various trajectories, including integrating Wiki programs into academic and co-curricular activities; promoting Bikol languages, literature, and culture through Wikimedia projects; enhancing digital literacy and writing skills; organizing training, edit-a-thons, cultural walks, and conferences; building partnerships with LGUs and cultural institutions; and establishing the Center for Open Access Resources, Knowledge Commons, and Large Language Model.
