CBSUA STUDENTS CULTIVATE GOAL-ORIENTED MINDSETS AT INTERNATIONAL YOUTH PROGRAM IN THAILAND

Three promising student delegates from the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) recently represented the institution at the 3rd Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific Youth Development Programme (AUAP-YDP), held in Pattaya and Bangkok, Thailand, from June 23 to June 27, 2025. Under the theme โ€œCultivating a Goal-Oriented Mindset for a Promising Future,โ€ the program offered a rich blend of academic sessions and cultural immersion, aiming to empower young leaders from across the region.

The selected delegates, Edward Joshua M. Mendoza from the Pili Campus, Princess Danica M. Zamudio from the Calabanga Campus, and Caren Mae M. Latonero from the Sipocot Campus, were chosen through a rigorous selection process involving their respective college deans, the Office of the Student Affairs and Services, and the Office of the Vice President for Business and External Affairs. Their participation underscores CBSUA’s commitment to fostering global competence and leadership among its students.

The program’s core involved a series of engaging sessions designed to broaden participants’ understanding of global issues and foster personal development. Topics ranged from financial planning and mindset mastery to the intricacies of international relations and career visibility. Mr. Supakrit Talnoy’s session, “Mastering the Mindset: Goal Setting and Financial Planning for a Future that Matters,” emphasized change as a constant and obstacles as opportunities, advocating for harmony in life and critical thinking in career choices. Mr. William Yotive, Model UN Coordinator from the World Federation of United Nations Associations, provided insights into “Differences of Model UN and the Real UN,” elucidating the distinct functions of the United Nations and its simulation. Dr. Yhing Sawheny, International Affairs Director of Siam University, then facilitated a session on “Global Excellence in Higher Education through Networking and Partnerships,” highlighting the crucial role of Connection, Collaboration, and Creation in successful institutional partnerships.

The second day focused on youth engagement and career strategies. Mr. Yotive returned to discuss “UN Opportunities for the Youth,” underscoring the vital role of contemporary youth as catalysts for change and future custodians of the world, and urging their active participation in solving global challenges, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Mr. Kok Lau Yin, Managing Director of Krempi Communications International (KSI), led “Visibility Strategies that Get You Recognized and Rewarded,” an interactive session that emphasized the significance of an individual’s network and the “5/95 rule” for making a strong impression. The final session, “Establishing A Catering Airline,” by Mr. Orane Lakkam, former manager of Thai Catering’s Ground Service Department, showcased the company’s success in promoting culinary heritage and leveraging social media for business growth. The formal program concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony, officiated by Ms. Supaporn Chuangchild, the AUAP Executive Secretary.

Beyond the classroom, the CBSUA delegates engaged in enriching cultural experiences. On June 26, they visited Thai Catering, where they gained insights into the company’s meticulous operations and resonated with their core value of TASTE: Team collaborate, Agility adapt, Sense of ownership, Trust of wisdom, and Ensuring care. The students recognized the applicability of this ideology to their roles as student leaders, particularly in fostering partnerships, adapting to trends, maintaining accountability, building trust, and demonstrating genuine care. A tour of the food preparation departments further underscored the importance of organization in operational efficiency. The day culminated with an evening on the Meridian Cruise, offering networking opportunities with other young individuals and a taste of Thai cuisine and performances.

The cultural immersion continued on June 27 with a visit to the Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre (BACC), providing insight into Thai pop culture through a blend of traditional and contemporary art. The delegates noted “Path of Destiny” by Darinee Pollap as particularly striking. The BACC’s mini-library and robust support for local artists showcased its commitment to cultural preservation and bolstering the local economy.

CBSUA’s participation in the AUAP-YDP reflects its ongoing commitment to developing well-rounded, globally aware leaders ready to contribute to a promising future.
