CBSUA SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS LABCO WRITESHOP TO ENHANCE RESEARCH PROPOSALS FOR DEPDEV FUNDING

In pursuit of strengthening research innovation and collaboration, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) successfully conducted the Laboratory for Collaboration (LabCo): Proposal Packaging Writeshop for DEPDev Funding from July 23 to 25 and 28, 2025, at the CBSUA Farmers’ Training Hall.

Organized by the CBSUA Research Services Division Office, this initiative focused on enhancing the quality, clarity, and fundability of research proposals aligned with the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev) priorities. Faculty-researchers, together with research mentors and expert panelists, engaged in collaborative sessions to improve their proposals for potential DEPDev funding opportunities.

The workshop brought together faculty-researchers from various colleges, working collaboratively with expert evaluators to ensure that proposals are strategically structured, technically sound, and socially relevant.

The four-day activity commenced with an opening message from the Director of the Research Services Office, highlighting the importance of research in addressing community needs and its role in community development. The Vice President for Research and Innovation, Dr. Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez, and the University President, Dr. Alberto N. Naperi, also delivered messages to the faculty members, emphasizing the university’s commitment to research excellence. This was followed by an overview of DEPDev funding priorities and proposal structure presented by Prof. Marlene Ramos, one of the unit heads of the Research Services Division.

Participants began by presenting their initial concept papers, which received constructive critiques from a distinguished panel of experts. On the following days, the writeshop transitioned to asynchronous proposal writing sessions based on the feedback received, focusing on refining research objectives, methodology, and impact frameworks. The final day featured presentations of revised proposals, followed by expert reviews and evaluations to assess their readiness for submission.

Additionally, a workshop on budget allocation was conducted by Mr. Erick Aguimatang, Supervising Administrative Officer for Finance, who provided critical guidance on proper budgeting practices and aligning financial components with proposal objectives and funder requirements.

These activities reflect the collaborative and results-driven nature of the LabCo writeshop, empowering CBSUA researchers to transform their ideas into viable, fundable projects. The structured approach ensured that participants received comprehensive support in developing high-quality research proposals that meet DEPDev standards and requirements.

CBSUA extends its deepest gratitude to all participants, reviewers, mentors, and organizing committee members whose dedication made this activity successful. Their commitment to quality research continues to position CBSUA as a center for innovation, collaboration, and transformative development.

As the university awaits the results of the submitted proposals, there remains confidence that these initiatives will create a significant impact not only within the university but also in the communities it serves.
