Dr. Lourdes Lobis-Nieva, CAS faculty member, launched “Tagubhang” on August 28, 2025, a book introducing a new literary theory rooted in cultural practice. The book launch also paved the way for the opening of the Bicoliana section in the university library.
Tagubhang is a literary theory which offers a critical approach to reading that can be applied to understanding literary heritage as well as the broader themes of human existence and resilience. The publication of the book was made possible through the funding of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA), after a rigorous review process.
Mr. Abdon M. Balde, Jr., a celebrated Bicolano writer and a poet laureate, graced the event as the keynote speaker. He provided an extensive discussion of the Tagubhang literary theory and showcased the richness of the Bicol literature. Other Bicol writers and artists joined the said event, along with the university librarian and other top university officials.
The activity ended with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the newly-created Bicoliana section. This section features various books and materials that highlight works of Bicolano writers and artists in general.
The event reflects the university’s commitment to preserving and promoting Bicol culture and literature as a vital component of academic excellence for both faculty and students.
