HERDIN ORIENTATION | BRIDGING HEALTH RESEARCH AND INNOVATION AT CBSUA

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) strengthened its commitment to advancing research and innovation by formally partnering with the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) through the Health Research and Development Information Network (HERDIN) Orientation, held on August 28, 2025, via Zoom.

HERDIN, the national health research repository managed by the DOST-PCHRD, serves as an integrated platform for accessing, storing, and sharing health-related research outputs nationwide. By joining this network, CBSUA affirms its role as a proactive contributor to national and global knowledge-sharing initiatives.

The program began with Prof. Dariel A. Palmiano, PhD, Vice President for Research and Innovation at CBSUA, who emphasized the significance of HERDIN in making the university’s research outputs visible, accessible, and impactful. He emphasized that the partnership reflects CBSUA’s vision of harnessing research not only in agriculture but also in health, wellness, and sustainable community development.

In his welcome message, Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, Executive Director of PCHRD, expressed appreciation for CBSUA’s commitment to advancing research visibility and inclusivity. He highlighted HERDIN as a valuable tool that bridges the gap between researchers and end-users of knowledge.

The orientation featured presentations from the HERDIN Team, led by Ms. Ullyann C. Garcia, Chief SRS of PCHRD, and staff members Ms. Maria Violeta G. Intia, Ms. Alyza G. Ganon, Ms. Angelique Regio, and Ms. Grace Ruth T. Daulat. Topics included HERDIN overview, account creation, document delivery, partnerships, and the research form. These sessions provided participants with hands-on knowledge of HERDIN’s processes and opportunities.

The activity concluded with Assoc. Prof. Shela V. Ruiz, Director of the Knowledge Management Center of CBSUA, delivered the closing remarks and words of thanks. She stressed the importance of sustaining knowledge-sharing initiatives, reminding participants that research should not remain confined to shelves but must be shared, applied, and transformed into innovation for communities.

Through this orientation, CBSUA takes a significant step in bridging research and innovation—building bridges of collaboration, amplifying the visibility of its research, and contributing to a culture of open knowledge. With the support of DOST-PCHRD, CBSUA is set to become an active player in shaping a stronger, more inclusive, and impactful research ecosystem for the nation. | 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘧. 𝘚𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘢 𝘝.
