SCHLEIDEN, ON FOR A JAM-PACKED PURPOSEFUL STAY IN CBSUA

CBSUA welcomed Fulbright DAST program teacher, Ms. Jillian Schleiden on August 25, 2022 at the CBSUA Eco Cafe with a month of a well-planned itinerary of various meaningful activities that await her.

Attending the said event are Mr. Alberto Naperi, the University President who delivered his welcome remarks, Ms. Ana Mirana, the Vice President for Academic Affairs who presented the rationale and objectives of the Fulbright DAST Program Implementation, and other key officials, deans, and faculties of the different colleges. 

Ms. Schleiden’s activities were designed to carry out the main purposes of her stay in the university while building a good cultural relationship with the Bicolanos and Filipinos in general. Some of the activities include courtesy calls to key government officials and visits to tourist spots. But, more importantly, as a Fulbright DAST teacher, Schleiden will be working with CBSUA to carry out the following: (1) Train teachers on writing and developing teaching materials/module in various courses using technology tools or online resources or inthe lessons according to the design of a flipped classroom; and (2) Do workshop to capacitate teachers on ‘technical writing teaching techniques’ for them to acquire techniques in teaching technical writing and be able to write teaching materials which are lesson exemplars, school report and articles out of the action research outputs.

The Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program for U.S. Teachers (Fulbright DAST) is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by IREX. The Fulbright DAST Program sends expert US. K-12 teachers and educators to participating countries to support projects identified by U.S. Embassies and Fulbright Commissions in schools, teacher training colleges, government ministries, or educational non-governmental organizations.

Ms. Schleiden will be staying at the university under the College of Development Education in close coordination with the university International Relations Office from August 23 to September 18, 2022.
