The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), through its Research Services Division (RSD) in collaboration with the Extension Services Division (ESD), the BSA Major in Agronomy – AGRO199B, and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), hosted a technology forum on December 11, 2025, focusing on turmeric production, food safety, and biological control.
Held at the SWKS Bulwagang Pagtanghalan, CBSUAโPili campus, the forum gathered experts, practitioners, and students for a full day of knowledge-sharing, technical discussions, and practical insights. The program commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Mae Sa. Lustre, RSD Director, and Dr. Fortunato M. Balbis Jr., Dean of CANR, followed by an overview of the forum by Mr. Jobelly B. Pacis, Head of the Technology Assessment and Information Management Unit and CANR Instructor. The activity was conducted in partnership with the Turmeric Center, headed by its director, Ms. Leah B. Sumalinog.
The first session featured Ms. Lizalyn A. Villano, CANR faculty, who presented on turmeric cultivation, processing, and its potential as a high-value crop in the Bicol Region. This was followed by Dr. Carmelita N. Cervantes, owner of Carmel Agri-Learning Farm Inc., who shared practical approaches to safe and sustainable food production. The forum also addressed biological control and pesticide residue management, with Ms. Ma. Lakambini S. Aldecoa of the DAโBicol Regional Crop Protection Center providing expert guidance on biocontrol strategies and regulatory considerations.
The event concluded with an engaging open forum and closing remarks from Mr. Daniel Mark M. De Los Reyes, AGRO199B representative, and Ms. Abigail V. Guinoo, ESD Director. The forum was made possible through the support of Ms. Marlene A.
