The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) hosted the Training on the Community-Level SARAI Enhanced Agricultural Monitoring System (CL SEAMS) on March 24β26, 2026, at the CBSUA CND Hall, convening representatives from various local government units (LGUs) across Camarines Sur, partner institutions, and national agencies for a three-day capacity-building activity on climate-informed agricultural monitoring.Β
Implemented under Project SARAI (Smarter Approaches to Reinvigorate Agriculture as an Industry in the Philippines), the workshop introduced the Crop-Level Seasonal Agricultural Monitoring System (CL-SEAMS), a localized and data-driven platform designed to help LGUs generate crop monitoring reports, assess potential damage from extreme weather events, and issue science-based advisories to farmers. The initiative is led nationally by the University of the Philippines Los BaΓ±os and supported by the Department of Science and TechnologyβPCAARRD, with CBSUA serving as a collaborating institution under the SARAI Camarines Sur Hub.
Participants included agricultural extension workers and technical staff from LGU Iriga, Buhi, Libmanan, Pasacao, San Jose, and Sipocot, with 13 CBSUA faculty members and 35 students from the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, who took part in the technical sessions and assisted in workshop activities.
Sessions covered updates on Project SARAI Bicol implementation, orientation on intellectual property rights, and hands-on training on CL-SEAMS, QGIS, digitizing agricultural lands, and Google Earth Engine. Participants were trained to process satellite and weather data, develop crop monitoring maps, and produce rapid damage assessment reports to support timely local government response.
