CBSUA, DAR CAMSUR I MONITOR WATER AND PILI PROJECTS IN IRIGA CITY

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reformโ€“ Provincial Office of Camarines Sur I, conducted a monitoring activity on water resource and pili nursery development projects in Iriga City on January 30, 2026, supporting agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) and local farming communities.

CBSUA provided technical expertise through Engr. Julius De Villa of the College of Engineering and Food Science (CEFS), who assisted in assessing the water resource system serving the Sta. Maria Agrarian Reform Farmers Organization, Inc. The facility supplies domestic water to agrarian reform beneficiaries and nearby households.

Currently, the water system serves more than 60 consumer households, significantly improving access to safe, reliable water for daily use. DAR Cam Sur I also envisions expanding the project to reach more ARBs and community members in the future.

In addition to the water resource initiative, CBSUA and DAR Cam Sur I also monitored the ongoing construction of a pili nursery in San Pedro, Iriga City, led by the San Pedro Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries. The nursery is expected to strengthen local agricultural productivity and promote sustainable pili production in the area.

Key personnel from DAR Cam Sur I, including Engr. Jose Jesus B. Rey, Jr., Senior Agrarian Reform Program Officer; Ms. Beverly Atanante; and Ms. Hazel France Sapaula, led the coordination and monitoring, with documentation support from Mr. Marvin R. Molin of the CBSUA Extension Services Division.

An upcoming training on pili grafting and propagation is also planned to help agrarian reform beneficiaries improve nursery practices, enhance crop quality, and build additional livelihood opportunities.

Working closely with DAR Cam Sur I and local farmer organizations, CBSUA continues to enhance water access, strengthen agricultural livelihoods, and support sustainable rural development in agrarian reform communities in Iriga City.
