The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) conducted and participated in a series of activities throughout July 2026 in observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM), bringing its disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), climate change adaptation (CCA), and volunteerism initiatives to local communities, government agencies, and the University.
Anchored on the theme, “Naghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas,” the month-long observance featured expert lectures, technical trainings, webinars, and stakeholder engagements led by the CBSUA Resilience Center.
Among the highlights was the participation of Dr. Philip N. Talay, Director of the CBSUA Resilience Center, as plenary speaker during the Municipality of Libmanan’s National Disaster Resilience Month celebration on July 3, where he discussed Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCAM) and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM).
Dr. Talay also served as one of the judges in the Provincial DRRM Animation Contest organized by the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur on July 13.
CBSUA Volunteer Management Unit Head Genlud S. Bascuña represented the University as resource speaker during the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) Online TV Show, where he discussed the role of volunteerism in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and community recovery.
Meanwhile, Chris Ian Pan participated in the National Copernicus Capacity Support Action Program for the Philippines (CopPhil) training on Earth observation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and the use of Copernicus data for disaster risk assessment and climate monitoring.
The CBSUA Resilience Center also conducted a two-part online seminar series for students, faculty members, and employees, featuring Arnold Ignacio on disaster preparedness and mitigation on July 15, and Genlud S. Bascuña on student volunteerism and disaster-ready leadership on July 23.
