Capacity Training for Cacao Farmers commenced

Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) in partnership with Sorsogon State University-College of Agriculture, Bulan Campus and the Bulan Cacao Farmers Association conducted the first Capacity Enhancement Training on Cacao Nursery Establishment and Plantation Management on 20 May 2020.

The CBSUA team facilitated the initiative spearheaded by the University President, Dr. Alberto N. Naperi, and the Vice President of Research and Innovation, Dr. Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez with the support of Extension Service Director, Prof. Vladimir R. Foronda and the experts from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources headed by the Project leaders, Dr. Celerino B. LLesol Jr. and Dr. Emerson Bergonio.

This Capacity enhancement training for cacao farmers aimed to deepen farmer’s appreciation and understanding of the good of cacao production, to equip the farmers with techniques on raising cacao seedlings under nursery condition and planting through hands-on exercise, and to prepare and present a farm plan on the establishment and management of cacao production enterprise.

The topics first discussed were about the History and Importance of Cacao, Farm Planning and Farm Management, Nursery Establishment and Propagation of Planning Materials given by Dr. Emerson Bergonio followed by the discussion of Silviculture and Good Agriculture Practices by Dr. Celerino B. Llesol Jr.

Thirty five participants from Bulan Cacao growers and processors attended the said event. The site assessment where the nursery of cacao will be established happened after the training.
