The Agricultural Extension Students (BSA 4E2), along with the Extension Services Division (ESD) of the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), conducted a seminar entitled “Sustaining Growth: Training on Urban Agriculture and Different Urban Designs, Nutrient Management, and Integrated Pest Management” on December 7, 2025, at the Multipurpose Hall, Brgy. San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur.
This activity is under the project YOUNGSTERS (Youth Empowerment through Initiatives in Agricultural Practices, Strategies, and Innovations) of Ms. Abigail V. Gionoo, ESD Director, who warmly welcomed the students, local youth, and community members eager to strengthen their knowledge of modern, sustainable agricultural practices.
The whole seminar was full of new insights, highlighting the importance and benefits of urban gardening, urging the youth of San Jose to participate in urban gardening. The lecture was delivered by Ms. Rosita C. De Lumen, Head of the Organic Research & Development Centre and Project Leader for Edible Landscaping under the Department of Agriculture, RFO V.
Afterward, Ms. Joy B. Aquino, Instructor from CBSUA-Sipocot Campus, shared her insights on Nutrient Management and Integrated Pest Management (IPM), highlighting the benefits and different techniques of Integrated Pest Management.
This initiative was carried out in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Pili, with Mr. Basil Dr. Layosa, AT/LYDO Designate, and Mr. Rodel M. Garbeles, MUPAP & OAC Focal Person, gracing the activity. Also present was Hon. Lorradel E. Alamo, Barangay Captain of San Jose, who delivered a heartfelt message of support. The program concluded with closing remarks from Joshua Angelo C. Ronda, SK Chairman of Barangay San Jose. A key highlight of the event was the turnover of IEC materials, which were secured from the Department of Agriculture – RFO5.
The seminar served as a meaningful platform for learning, collaboration, and community empowerment. With the combined efforts of the BSA 4E2 students, ESD, esteemed speakers, and the support of Brgy.
