CBSUA, ICSHS JOIN FORCES TO PROMOTE INNOVATIVE SCIENCE TEACHING

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) strengthens its science education extension program through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing with Iriga City Science High School (ICSHS) for the implementation of the Guided Education through the Now Normal Extension Science Education (GENES) program on October 22, 2025, at the Farmer’s Training Hall, CBSUA. This initiative aims to enhance science teaching and learning through innovative, technology-aided, and context-responsive approaches.

The event was attended by CBSUA officials, including Atty. Dominador F. Faurillo, Vice President for Administration and Finance (representing University President Dr. Alberto N. Naperi); Ms. Abegail V. Guinoo, Director for the Extension Services Division; and Ms. Karen B. Perez, Dean of the College of Development Education. Also present during the ceremony were the GENES Program project leaders: Dr. Melinda Parro-Pan, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Kennedy A. Beltran, Director for Curriculum and Instruction Division; and Prof. Mary Grace B. Polvoriza.

In his opening message, Atty. Faurillo emphasized the importance of the program in ensuring that the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. He also expressed his gratitude to ICSHS and his optimism for the faculty’s active involvement and the program’s lasting impact on science education.

Mr. Virgilio S. Puso, ICSHS Secondary School Principal I, expressed their commitment to nurturing learners and capacitating their faculty members with the help of CBSUA by leveraging the university’s technology, expertise, and facilities to advance science education.

Established in 2023, ICSHS currently serves 148 learners across the Rinconada area. It now becomes the sixth partner institution under the GENES Program, joining other local universities and DepEd secondary schools in addressing educational gaps in science, as highlighted in the comprehensive assessment of the nation’s education sector conducted by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2).

This ceremonial signing serves as a manifestation of CBSUA’s continued commitment to advancing quality and inclusive science education through meaningful partnerships and sustained extension efforts. By expanding the reach of the GENES Program, CBSUA reaffirms its role as a catalyst for educational innovation and community empowerment in the Bicol Region.
