CBSUA JOINS LIBMANAN SDG TOWN INITIATIVE, STRENGTHENS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development by participating as one of the Higher Education Institutions witnessing the Ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing for the SDG Town Project held on April 16, 2026, at the SK Building, Bagumbayan, Libmanan, Camarines Sur.

Representing CBSUA President Dr. Alberto N. Naperi were Vice President for Business and External Affairs (VPBEA) Dr. Cherry Love B. Montales and Dr. Immaculate E. Falabi, Director of the Resource Generation Office. The Local Government Unit of Libmanan formally launched the SDG Town Project under the initiative “Mainstreaming the 17 Sustainable Development Goals,” aimed at strengthening local governance through evidence-based planning, innovation, and capacity-building for sustainable development. During the event, the Municipality of Libmanan also formalized its partnership with De La Salle University Manila, which will serve as its academic partner in advancing SDG localization.

As one of the invited Higher Education Institutions, CBSUA joined local officials, partner institutions, and various stakeholders in witnessing this significant milestone for the municipality. The university expressed its support for Libmanan’s vision of becoming an SDG Town and looks forward to future discussions on how it can further extend assistance to the LGU in achieving this goal.

This initiative strongly supports several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through capacity-building and academic partnerships, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by promoting sustainable local governance and community resilience, SDG 13 (Climate Action) through environmental sustainability efforts, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening collaboration among local government units, higher education institutions, and partner organizations. CBSUA’s participation reflects its strong institutional commitment to sustainability and public service. As a globally recognized university in sustainable development, CBSUA continues to champion initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The university is recognized in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for its significant contributions toward the attainment of the SDGs, particularly in quality education, partnerships, environmental sustainability, and community development. In addition, CBSUA is a proud awardee of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, having been recognized in both 2023 and 2024 as one of the world’s sustainable universities for its environmental stewardship and sustainability practices.

The presence of CBSUA in the Libmanan SDG Town initiative highlights the university’s role as a key academic partner in fostering sustainable communities and strengthening local development efforts across the region. Through partnerships such as this, CBSUA continues to serve not only as an institution of higher learning but also as an active catalyst for sustainable transformation in local communities. | 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘝𝘗𝘉𝘌𝘈 𝘋𝘳.
