Dressed in vibrant ASEAN-inspired costumes, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) community kicked off its month-long commemoration of the 59th Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) today, August 10, 2026, during the flag-raising ceremony at the CBSUA Pili Campus.
Guided by this year’s theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together,” the opening activity was spearheaded by the College of Development Education (CDE). The event drew broad participation from top university management, teaching and non-teaching personnel, and Laboratory High School students.
A key highlight of the commemorative ceremony was the raising of the ASEAN flag and flags representing the 10 ASEAN member countries. The ceremony was further elevated by the singing of this year’s official ASEAN theme song, “One Vision, One Ocean,” symbolizing the enduring commitment of Southeast Asian nations to peace, regional stability, friendship, and sustainable marine and socio-economic cooperation.
University President Dr. Alberto N. Naperi noted that August marks a double celebration for CBSUA, as the university simultaneously celebrates Buwan ng Wika. He emphasized that this year’s ASEAN theme directly mirrors CBSUA’s strategic drive toward global competitiveness:
“Our goals for internationalization are stronger than ever. We are actively expanding our horizons to connect not only within the ASEAN region but with academic and research institutions across the world.”
Reinforcing this vision, Vice President for Business and External Affairs Dr. Cherrylove B. Montales highlighted how the OVPBEA actively builds dynamic global networks. She stressed that international partnerships extend beyond student exchange programs to include comprehensive faculty development, joint research ventures, and institutional growth as CBSUA solidifies its footprint on the global stage.
Closing the kickoff ceremony on a festive note, the university awarded special recognition to students, faculty, and non-teaching staff who showcased the best ASEAN-inspired traditional attire.
