FARMERS, BEEKEEPERS, ENTHUSIASTS GATHER FOR BASIC TRAINING ON STINGLESS BEEKEEPING IN CAMARINES NORTE

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA)- Regional Apiculture Center (RAC), Bicol Beekeepers Association (BBA), and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA)- Camarines Norte as the lead organizer, collectively held a a one-day basic training on stingless beekeeping on December 4, 2025, at Parsens Farmville Resort in Laniton, Basud, Camarines Norte.

The training equipped participants with essential and practical knowledge in managing stingless bee colonies. Messages of support and the presentation of the training rationale were delivered by Melchor R. Brinas, BBPA VPF Project Officer, and Ms. Katherine O. Bongcay, Senior Agriculturist. This was followed by Ms. Saleem J. Silvio, Secretary of the Bicol Beekeepers Association, who introduced the keynote speaker, Ms. Johanna San Miguel Cordial, Director of the Regional Apiculture Center (RAC). Ms. Cordial discussed stingless bee biology, colony structure, and key management practices essential for successful meliponiculture.

A major highlight of the training was the field demonstration on honey harvesting, where participants watched the entire process firsthand shortly after the technical discussions. In the afternoon, Mr. Roberto Buenagua, RAC Apiarist, discussed the honey processing, safety protocols, and first aid, while various stingless bee products were showcased. Participants actively engaged, asked questions and showed interest on stingless beekeeping during the open forum.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Joan A. Alma, Agriculturist II.
