At the heart of every successful initiative, event, or community effort is a group of dedicated individuals who selflessly give their time, energy, and resources without expecting anything in return. At the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) in Pili, we have witnessed firsthand the power and impact of volunteerism. Whether supporting academic activities, participating in outreach programs, or assisting during university events, the volunteers at CBSUA embody the spirit of selflessness and community.
On April 4, 2025, the university held a simple yet meaningful awarding ceremony to recognize the contributions of these volunteers at the Agribusiness Incubation Center. Volunteer organizations honored included the CBSUA Pili College Red Cross Youth Council (CRCYC), CBSUA Disaster Response and Recovery Operations Unit (CBSUA-DRROU), Gryphon Bicol R5 – CBSUA Pili Chapter, and Teatro Ladawan. Their contributions go far beyond assisting with tasks, particularly during the First Quarter National Simultaneous Drills, which involved simulations on earthquakes, fires, chemical spills, acts of violence, and medical emergencies. CBSUA volunteers work tirelessly to ensure everything runs smoothly. Their involvement transcends simple participationโthey often lead the charge, organize activities, and encourage others to join in the mission of giving back.
The event was graced by Dr. Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez, the CBSUA Vice President for Research and Innovation, who expressed appreciation to the volunteers on behalf of the CBSUA Administration. Also present was Dr. Allan B. Del Rosario, CBSUA Pili Campus Administrator, who emphasized that volunteerism takes many forms. Dr. Philip N. Talay, Director of the CBSUA Resilience Center, highlighted the significance of volunteerism at the university, calling it a great act of selfless service and leadership. Mr. Genlud S. Bascuลa, the DRRM Coordinator and University Volunteerism Focal Person, also thanked the volunteers for their invaluable service.
The impact of volunteering at CBSUA is immeasurable. Through their volunteer work, students develop invaluable skills such as leadership, time management, teamwork, and problem-solvingโtraits that prepare them for future careers and life challenges. Volunteers also gain a sense of fulfillment and purpose, knowing they are contributing to something greater than themselves.
Moreover, the ripple effect of their actions often inspires others to join the movement, spreading kindness and fostering a spirit of service throughout the community.
