CBSUA EMPOWERS LABO FARMERS WITH BEEKEEPING TRAINING

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), through its Regional Apiculture Center (RAC), conducted training on bee culture and production management for members of the Barangay Bautista Agriculture Cooperative (BBAC) in Labo, Camarines Norte, on January 24, 2026.

Focused on strengthening farmersโ€™ skills and promoting sustainable bee culture as a viable livelihood, the activity featured a hands-on demonstration on re-hiving a feral stingless bee colony into two separate colonies using a coconut shell and a box tower hive, giving participants practical experience in proper colony management.

The training focused on the technical aspects of bee culture and production management, including proper hive management, colony health, and sustainable production practices. Participants were introduced to practical, science-based approaches that can help them effectively operate and expand beekeeping ventures within their community.

Leading the training were CBSUA-RAC experts Johanna S. M. Coridal, Director of the Regional Apiculture Center, and Roberto Buenaagua, RAC apiarist. They provided participants with an in-depth understanding of modern apiculture techniques and best practices essential for maintaining productive and resilient bee colonies through comprehensive discussions and interactive knowledge-sharing sessions.

Also present during the activity were Hon. Carlo G. Pardo, Chair of the Committee on Agriculture of the Local Government Unit of Labo, Camarines Norte, and Henry S. Pamesa, President of Lupain Fonatin. Both officials delivered inspirational messages, expressed strong support for the initiative, and actively engaged with participants throughout the training.

Through this initiative, CBSUA reaffirmed its commitment to empowering local farmers, promoting innovative agriculture, and advancing inclusive growth in the Bicol Region.
