To strengthen their laboratory skills, faculty and graduate students of the Master of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (MSABE) Program, together with selected Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) students underwent a Training on Basic Microbial Analysis and Shelf-Life Testing of Perishable Food conducted by the College of Engineering and Food Science (CEFS) from July 20 to 29, 2026, at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) Pili Campus.
Participants underwent lectures and laboratory exercises on microbiology laboratory safety, aseptic techniques, bacteriological culture methods, microbial load determination, microscopic examination, bacterial staining, sensory evaluation, quality control, and basic shelf-life testing of perishable food products.
The activity provided participants with practical exposure to laboratory procedures commonly used in food safety, quality assurance, post-harvest management, and research involving agricultural and food engineering.
Facilitated by resource persons from the College of Engineering and Food Science (CEFS) and supported by the CBSUA Graduate School, the training concluded with laboratory activities that enabled participants to apply the techniques discussed during the lectures and gain experience in basic microbial analysis and shelf-life testing.
