The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) conducted a community needs assessment in Barangay Bonot-Sta. Rosa, Calabanga, Camarines Sur on June 11, 2026, as part of its efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience among flood-prone farming and fishing communities.
The activity gathered farmers, fisherfolk, and local stakeholders to identify community needs and priorities related to disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM). Participants shared their experiences and concerns to help determine appropriate interventions on disaster preparedness, risk communication, and disaster literacy through community consultations, resource valuation, and hazard mapping.
The assessment forms part of the extension program, “Strengthening Community Disaster Resilience through Participatory Risk Communication and Literacy Programs in Flood-Prone Farming Communities in Camarines Sur,” which aims to improve disaster awareness and strengthen the capacity of vulnerable communities to prepare for and respond to natural hazards through participatory and community-based approaches.
The information gathered will guide the development of extension activities, capacity-building programs, and other initiatives tailored to the needs of Barangay Bonot-Sta. Rosa, helping improve local disaster preparedness and community resilience, aligned with the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework.
The activity was conducted in partnership with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Calabanga, led by Mr. Daniel S. Abalayan, LDRRMO III, together with Ms. Maribeth A. Ponce. The Barangay Council of Barangay Bonot-Sta. Rosa, headed by Punong Barangay Hon. Elmer R.
