CBSUA UNDERGRADUATE, GRADUATE STUDENTS PARTAKE IN 35th STEAC

The Research Services Division held the 35th year of its annual Science and Technology Excellence Awards Competition (STEAC) on May 25-26, 2023, at Central Bicol State University of Agriculture. 

 

The competition commenced with welcome remarks from Dr. Allan B. Del Rosario, the OIC Vice President for Research and Innovation, followed by an inspirational message from the University President, Dr. Alberto N. Naperi, who gave words of encouragement to the graduating students. 

 

There were two simultaneous sessions for the oral presentation: the undergraduate category at the CND Lecture Hall and the graduate category at the Farmer’s Training Hall. There is a total of 24 presenters: 11 of which are from the undergraduate category and 13 from the graduate category. For the poster competition, a total of 29 entries were submitted.  

 

These research papers were evaluated by the evaluators based on their expertise. Under the undergraduate category, members of the panel of evaluators were: Professor Vivien De Luna from Partido State University, Engr. Christopher Pacardo from Bicol University, Guinobatan, Prof. Patrick Cabrejas from Camarines Norte State College, and Dr. Victoria Lapitan, Director of PhilRice. Meanwhile, the panel of evaluators in the Graduate and Poster Categories consisted of: Dr. Fe. B. Perlas, former Professor of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, Prof. Arthur B. Estrella, retired faculty of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, and Professor Rebecca Rosario Bercasio of Bicol University.

The awarding of certificates and presentation of winners were announced on the 2nd

day of the program. For the Oral Presentation Competition under the Undergraduate Category, the winners were Mr. Gailchezar A. Avila, with his adviser, Prof. Julieta M. Casaul who received the 3rd Best Oral Presenter for his research entitled “Emulsifying Properties of Pectin from Cacao Pod Husk as affected by Organic Acid Extractions”; Mr. Edmund Paul L. Tena, with his adviser, Engr. Cherryflor R. Balingasawas, received the 2nd Best Oral Presenter for his research entitled “Design, Fabrication, and Testing of a Spiral Water Wheel Pump”, and Mr. Michael P. Primavera, with his adviser, Engr. Marife L. Pesino, who received the 1st and Best Oral Presenter award for his research entitled ‘Design, Fabrication, and Performance Evaluation of Torch Ginger (Etlingera elatior) Stalk Decorticator”.

Under the Graduate Category, Mr. Ernesto V. Villanobo, Jr., with his adviser, Dr. Henry A. Mabesa, Jr., was awarded the 3rd Best Oral Presenter for his research entitled “Enhanced Air Compressor: Laboratory Tool for Automotive Technology”, Mr. Francis T. Villarez, with his adviser, Dr. Yolanda S. Agawa, received the 2nd Best Oral Presenter for his research entitled “Landslide Susceptibility of Bula, Camarines Sur, Mr. Darwin A. Garbeles, with his adviser, Dr. Marilyn B. Balderas, received the 1st Best Oral Presenter for his research entitled “Adiangao Cave-Dwelling Bacterial Isolates: A Novel Approach for Enhancing the Growth and Yield of OPV Corn”.

For the Poster Competition, Mr. Peter John Ireno, with his adviser, Dr. Shiloh Grace Perdon, was awarded 3rd Place for his research entitled “Detection of Heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) in Dogs from Selected Barangays of Nabua, Camarines Sur”, Mr. Jayryl D. Enano, with his adviser, Dr. Marilyn B. Balderas received 2nd Place for his research entitled “Radiation-Modified Carrageenan as Plant Growth Promoter: Boosting Disease Resistance, Growth, Yield and Shelf Life of OPV Tomato (Solanum lycopercipum), and Mr. Darwin A. Garbeles, with his adviser, Dr. Marilyn B. Balderas, received the 1st Place for his research entitled “Adiangao Cave-Dwelling Bacterial Isolates: A Novel Approach for Enhancing the Growth and Yield of OPV Corn”.

The competition aims to provide relevant information for the newest research developments. Through this, the efforts of undergraduate and graduate students and their respective advisers are recognized and provided a gateway to regional and national competitions. | 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘔𝘴.
