The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), through its College of Engineering and Food Science (CEFS), conducted a Training on Hydroponic Gardening for residential patients of the Department of Health (DOH)โCamarines Sur Treatment and Rehabilitation Center on May 21, 2026, at the Center in Pamukid, San Fernando, Camarines Sur.
The activity introduced participants to hydroponic gardening as an alternative method of crop production that requires no soil and can be practiced even in limited spaces. Designed as part of the Center’s livelihood interventions, the training aimed to provide practical knowledge and skills that can support food production and income-generating opportunities for the residents.
Serving as resource persons from the CBSUA College of Engineering and Food Science were Julius L. De Villa, Glaza J. Visitacion, Salvacion Christy, and Rudnar Jay Barbara, who facilitated lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises on the principles, setup, and management of hydroponic systems. Participants learned the basic principles of hydroponic gardening, including system setup, crop management, and the use of affordable and locally available materials in establishing a hydroponic garden.
The training was organized through the initiative of the DOH-Camarines Sur Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, led by Suzanne M. Dino, Livelihood Section Staff-in-Charge, together with the Livelihood Committee members Justine Salvador, Joel Caratao, Kevin Ralph Tuazon, and Dr. Lloyd Asor. The activity also highlighted the continuing collaboration between CBSUA and DOH in promoting rehabilitation through sustainable livelihood programs.
Participants expressed appreciation for the training and shared their enthusiasm to apply what they learned both within the rehabilitation center and in their communities after completing the program.
