Parents, youth leaders, and community members in Barangay Caroyroyan, Pili joined in the first session of SHOP for Reading (School and Home Partnership for Reading): A Short-term Course for Teaching Beginning Reading in English conducted by the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), through the College of Development Education (CDE) and the Extension Services Division (ESD), in partnership with the Barangay Council and the Sangguniang Kabataan of Caroyroyan, on July 8, 2026, at the barangay’s Reading Hub.
The session introduced participants to practical strategies and techniques for teaching beginning reading in English, enabling them to better support children’s literacy development at home and in the community.
Punong Barangay Jerry C. Canave welcomed the participants and expressed his appreciation to CBSUA for bringing the program to Barangay Caroyroyan. He underscored the importance of collaboration between the University and the local community in promoting children’s learning and development.
Dean Karen B. Perez of CDE and Project Leader of the SHOP for Reading Program, served as the resource speaker. She discussed phonemes, vowels, and reading drills, and facilitated hands-on activities that allowed participants to apply the strategies presented during the training.
