The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Gubat, successfully conducted a Training on Vetiver Grass Production and Nursery Establishment on May 8, 2026, at the Gubat Public Library.
The training aimed to enhance the participantsโ knowledge and skills in vetiver grass technology, particularly its applications in soil and water conservation, erosion control, and environmental rehabilitation. The activity also underscored the importance of sustainable land management practices in building climate-resilient communities.
Serving as the resource speaker was Melchora V. Abonal, Director of the CBSUA Vetiver Center, who shared her expertise on vetiver grass production, propagation techniques, nursery establishment, and the environmental benefits of vetiver technology. She emphasized the vital role of vetiver systems in addressing environmental challenges and supporting ecological sustainability.
One of the highlights of the activity was the dispersal of vetiver grass planting materials to the LGU of Gubat, followed by the actual planting of vetiver slips at the Tagaytay dumpsite as part of the municipalityโs ongoing environmental conservation initiatives. Representing CBSUA during the activity were Allan B. Del Rosario, Campus Administrator; Fortunato M. Balbis Jr., Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR); and Abigail V. Guinoo, Director of the Extension Services Division (ESD).
The activity was also attended by Ronnel U. Lim, Municipal Mayor of Gubat; Jimmy Yau, Municipal Administrator; and was spearheaded by Paulene Esller together with Joshua Pura.
Through this collaborative initiative, CBSUA and LGU Gubat continue to strengthen their partnership in promoting sustainable environmental practices and community-based conservation efforts through the use of vetiver technology.
